How can I tell if he/she is the one for me?

When meeting a new partner, there is always the dilemms ’how can I tell if this person is the one for me?’ and there are two differing schools of thought.  The old adage of ’opposites attract’ can work for some, so should you spend time with someone who is like or unlike you?  Many healthy relationships succeed where couples have a similar financial status or upbringing and, not surprisingly, similar intellect means that you will always find each other interesting and stimulating.  Physical compatibility helps and while there needs to be a ’spark’ to keep the relationship alight, looks are a bonus and not a necessity as a partner may have more to offer on an emotional level which is far more important to the relationship than the way they look.  The ability to compromise on both sides can resolve many an issue which appears to have no resolution and finally, though not surprisingly, a shared sense of humour and the ability to enjoy life can carry you through until life is once again on an even keel.
